Last February 12, 2011 Deftones" fans finally got to taste fulfillment as they watched Deftones perform live for the first time at the World trade Center here in Manila, Philippines. A plethora of people started lining up as early as 3pm eagerly anticipating this once in a lifetime experience.
Local rock acts Slapshock and Urbandub opened for Deftones and put on an energetic performance.
Energy was sky-rocketing as legendary frontman, Chino Moreno, graced the stage. With his killer dance moves and his potent aura, the crowd made love with him and their music that night, gender is insignificant. The concert was surreal, Stephen Carpenter’s crispy guitar riffs, Abe Cunningham’s drop-dead beats, Frank Delgado’s musique concrète samples, Sergio Vega’s complex basslines and lastly Chino Moreno’s extensive long lasting howls and wails. The crowd went crazy everytime Chino Moreno joins the crowd, all the way from VIP and into the silver section even! The climax came at “Passenger” when Chino stood on the VIP railings and joined the crowd together with an awesome, syncopated lighting display, timed to the music. I waited years to see Deftones only to experience them for a couple of hours. But it was all worth it. Art-metal quintet Deftones performed a total of 25 songs.
